If you have seen this error you know my pain.
The installer was unable to read the file “C:\Documents and Settings\Hunty\Desktop\WoW Installer\Installer lichking.mpq”. This error may be caused by problems with the media or drive at C:\–for example, a scratched or dirty CD-ROM/DVD-ROM, hard drive corruption, or a networking problem while downloading the installer. (The data being read was “Files\Win32\user\Launcher.exe”, and the error code was 0.) If this problem persists, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (Converter::Load)
I have been following the thread on the WoW tech support page and there are a lot of unhappy people out there that can’t install from the DVD. There are a number of theories why, but nothing definite at this point. To help out those that had the same problem I had I wanted to write up a quick guide on how to download and install WotLK from the WoW webpage. As you attempt this, please try to be patient, as the traffic for this download is rather high at the moment.
Frist, go to www.worldofwarcraft.com/account. Doing so will bring up the following login page.
From here enter your username and password as you would when logging into the game. This will take you to the Account Management page. From here you will want to go to the free services and select “Download Game Client”.
From here you will get the following page. Click which ever platform you run on (PC or MAC).
Upon selection you will be promted to run the the wow install.exe. Click ok through the next couple of dialog confirmation boxes and you will then be presented with the following dialog box.
Select WotLK and then hit ok. In moments you will be shown the WotLK installer. Click install and go take a break. The install may take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours so go out and get a bite to eat and stock up on caffeine cause when you get back it will be a long night of leveling.
Hopefully in the near future we will be able to find out what exactly happened, but for now we have to do our best to work with what we have.
